Officiating
Netball is the number one team sport played by women and girls in England. With interest in the sport growing at an unprecedented rate, the need for officials to service the game at every level has never been more important.
Here you’ll find lots of useful areas to help you with your officiating journey, whether you’re just starting out or as an experienced official.
Once qualified, it’s entirely up to you how far you progress, be it at a local league, in schools or at England Netball’s competitions.
At England Netball, you’ll find a learning environment that:
- prioritises your development
- encourages you to fulfil your potential
- assists you in reaching your officiating goals.

The game doesn’t just need young umpires or technical officials. Current or ex-players with a wealth of experience at various levels make excellent officials. Some have started in their late 30’s and now officiate in England Netball competitions.
Irrespective of your age (anyone over the age of 13 can become an umpire), ability or experience at playing Netball, if you have a passion for the game and can successfully complete England Netball’s Into Officiating or C Award Course, you can start your journey to becoming a Netball umpire.
