Keith Morris
Keith has enjoyed a career within sport and fitness and for over 25 years, within higher education sport in Yorkshire (Hull, Leeds and York). He is currently Head of Sport at the University of York for York Sport.
Keith has been heavily involved in facility and partnership development and management, that has focussed on meeting demand and promoting opportunity and sports based initiatives. This includes significant development at the University of Hull and the opening of York Sport Village, sport arena and associated developments. All developments have benefitted from stakeholder engagement in order to foster links between local community clubs, schools, national governing bodies and the Universities in which he has worked.
Previously, within the region Keith has:
- been Chairman of British University and College Sport (BUCS Yorkshire)
- represented Yorkshire Forward by promoting pre-Olympic training opportunities in Yorkshire
- been a member of the Humber Sports Partnership (Active Humber).
- assisted Run For All, Jane Tomlinson Appeal to establish the Yorkshire Marathon
Nationally, Keith has in the past represented Yorkshire as a member of:
- Sport England’s Higher Education Stakeholder Group
- the BUCS national advisory group.
Keith is currently Chair of the stakeholder group Active York and responsible for the York Sports awards which he helped establish. He is also Co-Chair of the BRIT Yorkshire and Humberside Region HE/FE Steering Group in support of the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) challenge which supports young adult, student and staff mental health, wellbeing and fitness.
Through his day job, and two sporting daughters, he remains committed to maximising opportunities through sport and activity. Like many people he is making the most of the parental duties required to drive children to a number of athletics, football and Netball training sessions and events, where he continues to master the odds and even quarter time scoring change over!
